Chemical peels are one of the most common cosmetic procedures. They have been used since ancient times in Egypt, Greece, and Rome to improve the appearance of skin. Chemical peels have been improved and refined over the years, and are effective in transforming dull, lifeless skin into beautiful, radiant complexions.

Chemical peels are performed using an acid solution to remove damaged outer layers of the skin. They can also be used to treat imperfections such as fine lines and wrinkles. The peel removes cosmetic imperfections to expose a new layer of healthy skin. Although chemical peels are most performed on facial skin, they can also be used to rejuvenate the neck, hands, and chest.

Procedure & Recovery

This service is delivered in a relaxing setting and convenient session. We begin your treatment with a consultation to decide which chemical peel is best for your skin concerns.

We begin the treatment by cleaning the skin with alcohol to remove any surface oils. Next, Vaseline is applied to protect the eyes, nose, and mouth. Then, the peeling solution is applied. Depending on the skin’s reaction, we will apply up to 4 layers every 1-2 minutes. We use a fan to keep our patients comfortable during the treatment.

After the treatment, customized finishing creams based on skin type (including SPF) are applied. Clients will experience peeling, light sloughing and flushing within 3-5 days, and ending in approximately 7-10 days.

All You Need to Know About Chemical Peels

Chemical or derma peels are cosmetic procedures that are performed to improve the appearance of the skin. A chemical solution is applied to the skin which then removes the top layers. Then the skin that grows back is smoother. There are different strengths of peels and the stronger the peel, the longer it will take for your skin to recover.

Chemical peels are effective exfoliators as they allow the top layers of your skin to “peel” revealing smoother skin as the new skin cells grow. They also help to stimulate the production of collagen underneath which adds to the youthful, smoother appearance of the skin over time.

As mentioned, chemical peels remove the top layers of the facial skin. They are used to treat scars, pigmented skin, wrinkles.

Generally, the peeling will occur for about 1 week. The peeling stops when healing has occurred. Staying hydrated will also promote faster healing.

The cost of a chemical peel will largely depend on the strength of the peel you will be receiving. However, the range will be approximately $200-700. At your initial consultation, your medical aesthetics team will discuss your goals and needs which will help to determine the strength, type and frequency of the peel that is right for you.

We have an entire blog dedicated to the subject, please read it for details.

Again, this will depend on the type and strength of the peel you will be receiving. Lighter peels may be done monthly, stronger peels every 4-6 months and intense peels every month.

Chemicals peels are worth it if you are looking to improve the appearance of your skin and manage issues including pigmentation, wrinkles, acne, fine lines and uneven tone and texture.

Everyone reacts slightly different. However, typically right after the peel and within a few hours, you may experience redness, slight burning, or tingling. Also, for the few days after the peel, your skin will feel dry and irritated. Within 2-3 days, the skin will start to flake and peel, and you may experience some breakouts. By about day 5-7, the skin will start to look and feel “normal” again.

Chemical peels are different than facials. Facials are effective procedures for cleansing and moisturizing the skin, but do not affect the deeper layers of the skin. Chemical peels remove the top layers of the skin and stimulate new collagen to grow which has a more long-term effect than a facial.

While both treatments are excellent for increasing the health and vitality of your skin, they are slightly different in the way the procedures are performed. Microneedling involves making microscopic punctures in the skin to stimulate collagen production and boost the firmness of your skin. Chemical peels use chemical solutions to remove the outer layers of the skin to initiate cell turnover and promote healthy skin cell growth. It is best to speak to your medical aesthetic team to determine which treatment is right for you based on your skincare goals and needs.

Both procedures are effective exfoliants. Peels use chemicals to exfoliate while microdermabrasion is a manual form or exfoliation. Peels offer deeper exfoliation than microdermabrasion.

Yes, chemical peels will help to improve the appearance of wrinkles over time.
