Procedure & Recovery
Waxing is a quick service that can be completed in as little as 10 minutes for some areas. The hair can take up to 6 weeks to grow back. Over time, waxing results in thinner hair as it damages the hair follicle.
We begin your treatment with a consultation to decide which wax suits your skin the best. The skin is cleaned and prepped with an anti-moisture powder. The area is then waxed. After treatment, we apply post-treatment products that soothe the skin and reduce the risk of ingrown
hairs. We recommend waiting for 3-4 weeks of hair re-growth before your next treatment. There is virtually no recovery time. We do suggest that SPF is applied to the treated area, especially the face, neck and other areas that are regularly exposed to the sun.
Types of Waxing
Warm Soft Wax
Warm soft wax, either cream or resin-based, is used for strip waxing. The warmed wax is applied in a thin layer to the skin. A cloth strip is placed over the wax and the wax is removed.
Spreadable wax can be used to cover large areas such as the legs or arms. Although, it is very effective at picking up fine hairs, the soft wax sticks to the skin and should be used only once.
Warm Hard Wax
Hard wax can be used for both thicker and thinner hair. To protect the skin from the wax, a small amount of pre-epilation oil is applied to the skin.
The warm wax is applied and hardens on the surface of the skin when it cools. Because it hardens, it acts as a strip and is sometimes called strip-free wax.
All You Need to Know About Waxing
Waxing is a hair removal service. Waxing is easy, inexpensive, and effective. Waxing services can be found at most salons and spas and there are over-the-counter waxing kits that can be purchased in most grocery or drug stores..
Hair regrowth is slow compared to shaving and ranges from 2-6 weeks depending on the area of the body where the hair is removed. There is cold wax, soft (strip) wax and hard wax. Depending on the area of hair removal, different types of waxes may be used.
The cost of waxing varies depending on the area of the body that is being waxed.
Waxing doesn’t take very long, but it depends on the area being waxed. Usually, it is about 15-30 minutes but if multiple areas are being waxed at the same appointment, it may take a little longer.
Before waxing, you should avoid tanning for the 24 hours before the appointment. Additionally, it is best not to have alcohol or caffeine the day of the appointment as it causes the pores of the skin to tighten which may increase the discomfort during the procedure. After waxing, avoid heat (hot showers, saunas, tanning) and friction (wear loose clothing) for the next 24-48 hours to minimize any skin irritation.
Hair should be at least ¼” long to wax (the size of a grain of rice) which will ensure it is the root is completely removed from the hair follicle.
To prevent ingrown hairs after waxing, it is important to exfoliate the area gently.
Waxing does not remove hair permanently, but over time, the hair will grow back sparsely, and the hairs will be finer.
If you are interested in permanent hair removal, you can opt for laser hair removal.
Both waxing and laser hair removal are effective techniques for hair removal. After several applications, laser hair removal can get rid of unwanted hair permanently. Waxing is an effective method of hair removal but not a permanent solution. However, waxing is suitable for all hair types, skin types and skin tones and can be done in an aesthetics setting or at home. Both techniques have advantages and disadvantages.
It is best to have a Brazilian wax session every 3-4 weeks so there is enough regrowth.
This depend on how fast your hair grows, however, typically underarms should be waxed every 2-3 weeks.
To ensure there is enough regrowth, wax your legs, chest and/or arms every 3-4 weeks.
When your aesthetician is ready to apply wax, the area may be cleaned with a powder or rubbing alcohol to ensure the wax will stick. Then, the warm wax is applied in the direction of hair growth.
A muslin strip is then applied to the wax and pulled in the direction opposite to hair growth. Any hair that has not been removed may be tweezed if it doesn’t come out with a reapplication of wax.
Before your appointment, make sure your hair is about ¼” in length and that you’ve exfoliated the area gently. Wear comfortable clothing and remember that your aesthetician is a professional and will behave professionally as well. Avoid tanning for at least 24 hours before your appointment and having caffeine or alcohol the day of the appointment to minimize discomfort. It may be helpful to take a pain reliever before your appointment to reduce any pain you may feel.
The first time you wax, you may feel a little bit of pain even though the discomfort subsides very quickly. Your skin will feel unbelievably smooth after waxing has been completed and the hair has been removed.
If you’ve waxed before, it should be fine to wax 2-3 days prior to your wedding. If this will be the first time you’re waxing, you should try it first about 4-6 weeks ahead to ensure you don’t have any reactions or unexpected issues.
