How can an Facelift enhance your life

Embracing your age begins with putting your best face forward – and for facial rejuvenation and creating it natural, no procedure compares to the transformation of a facelift. With an exquisitely subtle lift, you can place your natural beauty front and centre. It’s not about looking different or younger, it’s about framing your age in the best way possible with defined contours and a tight, lifted silhouette.

Forget what you knew about the facelift – over the years, this procedure has evolved to minimize recovery and offer the most discreet, subtle incision possible. Just as you’d frame artwork, a facelift showcases all your best features by addressing the skin’s own canvas: your skin. A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a beautiful way to restore the appearance of youth, vitality, and suppleness. It can also revive self-confidence, and the lust for life. The profile is toned and tightened, and the facial contours that are too drab are refined and sculpted. While temporary solutions like injectables and dermal fillers can provide some improvement, only a surgical facial lift can make the dramatic, enduring changes.

Is is right for You

Are you a good candidate for a Facelift

You would be a great candidate for a facial lift if you have issues, such as:

  • Sagging neck and facial skin. However, some of the elasticity has been retained
  • Retained adequate bone structure to the face
  • Average age is between 40 and 65
  • Good mental and physical health
  • Has realistic expectations
  • Seeks improvement, but does not expect perfection

Deep Plane Facelift

The same incisions are used for a deep-plane facelift as a short-flap, with an additional extension that extends to the hairline below the ears. The procedure involves lifting the underlying support tissues, as well as lax, drooping, or sagging skin. As the skin and supporting tissue are moved upwards toward the ears, any laxity around the cheeks or upper neck will be corrected. This facelift technique is very natural looking.

Mini-Facelift

Mini facelifts are used to reduce signs of aging when there is minimal sagging or early jowls. Because of the incision, which extends from the top of your ears to the bottom of your ears (tragus), this procedure is sometimes called a “short-flap” facelift. It ends just below the earlobes.

These incisions at the hairline are used to draw your skin upwards and remove excess skin tissue. This results in tauter, smoother skin. The mini facelift tightens and contours the SMAS (a region of muscle on the lower side) to give you a more youthful appearance. For young patients with no sagging or heavy jowls, the mini facelift is a great option.

Recovery

There are several steps involved in the facelift recovery process.  It is normal for swelling and bruising to occur during healing. This may take up to several weeks before they disappear completely. The bruising starts in the lower part of the face, just in front the ears, and then moves down the neck and décolletage within the first week.

Patients are advised not to exercise for the first two weeks. They should also avoid strenuous activities. Patients who have had a facelift usually return to work in two weeks. A facelift is usually completed after 3 to 6 months once all swelling has subsided.

All You Need to Know About Rhytidectomy (Facelift)

A “traditional” facelift, also called a rhytidectomy, is a surgical cosmetic procedure that is used to help improve sagging skin and restore a more youthful appearance.

There are various types of facelifts including: deep plane, mini facelift, mid-facelift, S-lift, cheek lift, cutaneous lift, jaw line rejuvenation, brow or temporal lift, and liquid facelifts (non-surgical).

Mini facelifts are effective in reducing or eliminating the appearance of loose skin around the lower cheeks (jowls). The surgeon makes small incisions that are hidden in the hair line to remove excess skin and smooth the skin.

A deep plane facelift involves the smoothing and tightening the skin at the base of the chin and neck.

A ponytail facelift refers to a procedure that “lifts” the facial skin to mimic the appearance of wearing hair in a high ponytail. As such, the skin of the scalp, forehead, cheeks and eyebrows are pulled upwards.

A liquid facelift is a non-surgical technique which restores youthfulness by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles using injectable materials such as BOTOX, and other fillers.

Non-surgical facelifts use injectables such as fillers and neuromodulators to help achieve a more youthful appearance. They are also known as “liquid facelifts”.

A vertical facelift is another name for a deep plane facelift.

A Y facelift is a non-surgical liquid lift that gets its name from the pattern of the injectables follow. The purpose of the Y lift is to lift and contour the mid-face along the cheekbones, as well as the area between the chin and outer angle of the lower jaw.

A PDO facelift is a non-surgical facelift which uses surgical thread (sutures) to lift and tighten facial skin.

A facelift removes excess skin in certain areas to give the appearance of tighter, smoother skin.

Although results vary from person to person, according to a study done by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, clients who have had a facelift feel they look approximately 12 years younger, on average.

The costs of a facelift in Canada vary depending on the type of lift as well as the areas that are to be treated. They can range from $10,000-30,000.

The average recovery time is about 2-4 weeks.

Facelifts should last on average 10 years. However, this will be impacted over time by the normal ageing process and lifestyle choices of each individual.

A facelift works by elevating the skin in the areas that need to be tightened and smoothed and removing the excess skin, fat and tissues in the same areas.

On average, the recovery time for a facelift is 2-4 weeks.

Yes, facelifts will eliminate or significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

At your surgical consultation visit, your doctor will explain the procedure from pre-surgery to post-surgery. At this time, you will be shown how to take care of your skin, including facial massage, after your facelift.

A non-surgical facelift or liquid facelift is a good option if you don’t want surgery. You may check out our cosmetic surgery-based options as well.

The procedure normally takes between 1-2 hours.

Normally, facelifts are best for those in their 40s or 50s when collagen production slows down or other signs of ageing become more noticeable.

It is worth getting a facelift if you are uncomfortable with your appearance and it is affecting other aspects of your life. This is a very personal decision, and you can discuss your concerns, reasons and cosmetic needs with your surgeon at your initial consultation to achieve your personal aesthetic goals.

Your surgeon will discuss these details with you at your initial consultation. Generally, you will be advised to have a medical evaluation and have bloodwork done. You will be asked to stop smoking and taking certain medications that can increase your risk of bleeding or bruising. Additionally, your current medications may be altered. The surgeon may recommend certain ointments or lotions as well pre-operatively.
