Liposuction

How can an Liposuction enhance your life

Cardio exercise is great, but even the highest incline or most steps can’t address some of the body’s most stubborn arera of fat. Every size is beautiful – yet even with the most balanced lifestyle and workout routine. Whether in the mirror, or in your “favourite black dress” for a night out – our surgeons have the experience and meticulous technique to help you dazzle from every angle and discover The Best You.

You can have liposuction under general anesthesia, or with IV sedation. A small incision will be made by the surgeon to insert a cannula. The surgeon will loosen the fat cells and vacuum them out. Patients often combine liposuction and other treatments such as fat grafting or a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Procedure & Recovery

Most patients can return to their normal activities within three to five days. However, it is important to avoid strenuous exercise and other strenuous activities until your doctor recommends that you do so. This usually takes two to three weeks. To aid in healing, you may need to wear a compression gown. We will also give you detailed instructions after your return. You will notice a change in your body’s contour once the fluid retention and swelling have subsided. We are here to help you with any questions or concerns during the healing process.

My turn! Dr. Deniz Akyurekli decides to go for Liposuction

Listen to him speak!

Why did I decide to have liposuction now?
After years of providing liposuction, I finally decided to have it done myself. My motivation was similar to the reasons that have motivated countless others to have liposuction in this area. I have a good diet, stable weight and I exercise regularly, but the fat under my chin wasn’t going anywhere and I felt it aged me at a time in my life when I felt a bit age-sensitive.

What made me a good candidate?
Being in good health and having good skin elasticity and not much in terms of jowls along the jawline, I was a good candidate for liposuction in the submental region (area under the chin).

The Liposuction Procedure…
I put my trust in my talented plastic surgery colleague. After marking the area to be treated, I made myself comfortable in the treatment chair.

The anesthetic solution was administered gradually to expand the fat and numb the area. This felt like a tightness under the chin and the skin felt numb. Three small puncture wounds, one under the chin and one below each earlobe. Then, a small thin tube called a canula was inserted in the three areas and used to suction out the fat without any pain.

The whole procedure took about 1 hour and in the end I felt great. I had the procedure at the end of a work day on a Friday and I was back to work on Monday. Recovery was pretty easy and I only felt a little tender, but nothing too noticeable.

For the next 3 months, it felt a bit weird to shave in the area due to numbness but this gradually resolved.

I have to say, I love it! It was quick, easy and had very little downtime. The result was what I expected – fantastic!

Liposuction or “lipo” is a surgical technique which uses suction to remove fat from different parts of the body including the abdomen, hips, arm, buttocks etc. and results in a more contoured look.

Lipo 360 differs from traditional liposuction because it allows for the removal of fat cells from multiple areas of the abdominal region simultaneously. Usually, in traditional lipo only one area is targeted at a time.

Approximately 5 L or 11 lbs of fat and fluids (lipoaspirate) can be removed safely during a liposuction procedure. If more than this is removed at a time, the risk of complications is greater.

It is recommended that no more than 11 lbs or 5 L of fluids and fat (lipoaspirate) should be removed during the procedure as it can increase the risk of complications for the client.

Lipo is done as an outpatient procedure meaning the client can return home the day of surgery. For the first 3 days after surgery, you will wear compression bandages in the area of the surgery to reduce swelling and there will be moderate discomfort and pain that will be managed by medications your surgeon will prescribe. For the initial 2 weeks, you will need to rest and over time the discomfort will subside, and compression garments will be required. After about one month, you should not feel any discomfort and your results will start to be visible.

You will be able to resume work around 2 weeks after surgery. However, if your job is physically demanding, you may be advised to take additional time to heal and recover.

Do not avoid movement after liposuction as this can increase the risk of developing blood clots. Do not drink alcohol as it can slow down your healing process and lead to dehydration. Similarly, do not participate is strenuous exercise or lift anything heavy as this can increase your bleeding risks. Do not forget to wear your compression garments as recommended by your surgeon as these garments are meant to decrease fluid buildup in the treated area and reduce post-operative swelling. If you don’t have a waterproof dressing, do not shower or soak in a bath.

You should avoid alcohol for 1-2 weeks after surgery to allow your body to heal. Alcohol can also increase the risk of bleeding as it thins the blood and can also lead to dehydration.

The scars from liposuction may look like a small circular hole that are very small about 1-2 mm in size.

The scars generally fade over a few months.

It typically takes 2-6 weeks for the incisions or “lipo holes” to heal.

Liposuction doesn’t damage the body. It is the removal of fat cells from a specific area. Your surgeon will discuss the benefits and risks involved in this procedure with you at your initial consultation.

The results of your liposuction surgery will become more visible as swelling subsides and with time. The changes are usually noticeable after one month.

The changes achieved in contouring the body are usually permanent. However, weight gain can compromise the results.

Liposuction results are permanent. However, if lifestyle changes are not made or maintained, it is possible to gain weight in areas that have been previously treated.

For liposuction to be safe or effective, an individual must be in a relatively healthy weight range. Generally, if a person’s BMI (body mass index) is over 30, surgeons will not perform liposuction as it can pose serious health risks.

People may lose up to 2 or 3 sizes after liposuction.

Over time the swelling after liposuction surgery will subside, however, it can last up to 6 weeks.

Typically, most people will lose about 2-5 pounds of weight, and it is recommended that no more than 5 pounds be removed as this can increase the risk of complications for the client. Lipo is not meant to be a weight loss tool.

Liposuction does not normally leave loose skin unless the skin was lax or loose prior to the procedure or if a large amount of fat was removed.
