What is the Cost of Blepharoplasty?

Eye lid surgery prices vary. The price depends on the city where your surgery will be performed, the plastic surgeon and the associated fees as well as the overall complexity of the case and if there are any “add-on” procedures. The main costs of blepharoplasty are attributed to:

  • Surgeon’s fee
  • Anesthesia
  • Facility fee (clinic, hospital etc.)

Some clinics may have financing options that could make the cost of an eye lift surgery more affordable for you.

How Much does an Eye Lid Surgery actually Cost in Canada?

Research suggests that blepharoplasty is popular due to its price. A patient can achieve a dramatic aesthetic outcome for a relatively low price.

The cost of a blepharoplasty also differs depending on which eyelid is being treated. The cost of upper eyelid surgery is approximately $4000 or more while, that of lower eyelid surgery is upwards of $5500. (Lower eyelid surgery is more intensive and more technique-sensitive.)

Blepharoplasty involving both eyelids costs about $9500.

If you have “add-on” procedures like a browlift, which is common, the cost will increase as outlined below.

Upper eyelid surgery  $5,500
Lower eyelid surgery  $7,300
Upper and lower eyelid surgery  $10,950
End-brow with upper eyelid surgery  $12,850
End-brow with upper and lower eyelid surgery  $18,130
This table is just an estimate, actual prices may vary.

FAQs on the Blepharoplasty Costs

We get a lot of queries at our clinics about the cost of blepharoplasty. If you have questions, continue reading below.

Why is lower blepharoplasty more expensive than upper blepharoplasty?

Simply put, lower eyelid surgery is a lot more complex. There are several deposits under the eye that need removal after the fat has been removed. Complex procedures take more time and lower eyelid surgery takes 2-3 times longer than upper eyelid surgery.

Additionally, lower blepharoplasty is more expensive than upper blepharoplasty because it requires general anesthesia whereas, an upper blepharoplasty can be done with local anesthetic.

What are the best alternatives to eye-lid surgery?

Some non-surgical fillers might be as effective as eyelid surgery for some patients. However, there is no one-size-fits all treatment. At your consultation visit, the doctor will assess your needs and discuss various treatments with you to help you make an informed decision.

What are the benefits of blepharoplasty?

There are several benefits of blepharoplasty. They include eliminating sagging skin, puffiness and under eye bags. This leaves you with a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. For some individuals, eyelid surgery removes excess tissue around the eye that obstructs vision.

What are the types of blepharoplasties?

Apart from upper and lower blepharoplasty, there is Western and Asian Blepharoplasty.

Western blepharoplasty is performed to remove the fat around the eyes and create a pleasing aesthetics.

Asian blepharoplasty creates a fold in the upper eyelid. In doing so, it changes the appearance of the eye and may help in creating better vision.

Does insurance pay for blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgeries are usually elective in nature and as such, usually are not covered by insurance. You may need to check with your private insurance carrier. You may also want to ask your doctor’s office or clinic if they offer financing.

If your eyelid surgery is considered vital in improving vision, then it may be covered by your insurance. However, you should speak to your ophthalmologist or optometrist as it may be necessary to have further testing done prior to surgery and will not be part of your surgeon’s assessment.
